This is the home page of the Kansas Organization for Space Modeling, a section of the National Association of Rocketry. Our club was founded in 1980 by Kenneth McAlpine and Mark Johnson, and chartered as a section of the NAR early in the following year. Since that time, we have been holding launches, NAR sanctioned competitions, and other club-sponsored events in various locations across Kansas.

- Who/What is KOSMO?
KOSMO is a local rocketry club affiliated with the National Association of Rocketry
(NAR). Our club has been in existence since 1980 and has members from many areas
across the state of Kansas. Several KOSMO members have over 25 years of experience in
rocketry, but we have members ranging in age from middle school age to adults.
- Where do we fly rockets?
KOSMO has flying privileges on the R/C field at Lake Afton (west of the lake). We also
have an annual model/high power launch at the airport near Ellinwood, Kansas.
Several of our members have fields near home they use.
- What does KOSMO do?
We have business meetings three to four times per year, an NAR
sanctioned Regional competition called KRAMO during June, our high
power Final Frontier Fun Fly at Ellinwood on Labor Day Sunday, and lots
of less-organized gatherings. Our members have assisted with both the
4-H and Scouting rocketry activities. We have a bi-monthly newsletter, The
KOSMONAUT, which is sent to our members and to our guests at major
launch events.
- How much does all this cost?
KOSMO dues are $8.00 per year for individuals, or $17.00 per year for an entire family.
For $6.00 per year, you can receive the newsletter only. To be a full voting member of
KOSMO, you also need to be a member of the NAR. Check out the NAR website (see the link below).
